The worms seemed to be getting a bit skittish so I shredded paper like crazy in order to get them more bedding. Sorry about the devil dog, lol!
If you notice in the box is shredded paper (put through a cross cut paper shredder) and in the bucket is paper that has been wadded in to balls. Shredded paper mats down and restricts airflow, whereas wadded paper creates air pockets. Together they can be used effectively to take care of the worm bin smells and add more bulk and bedding for the worms.
I would usually use leaves for this, but I needed a material that would not heat up the bin, since it was already quite warm from some grains I put in a while back.
The paper was soaked for a few hours then laid on the top part of the bin. The worms moved in to it rather quickly so conditions might not be right yet for them deeper in the bin.
Next project is making boxes for underneath the wooden FT.
