Just got some new climbing equipment so just had to try it out.
I got 13mm samson blue streak rope and a leather rope saver.
The rope saver is great and way better than the rubber hose that I have been using. The hose is pretty worn out at this point anyway, but the leather reduces friction quite a bit more.
When looking for new climbing rope I wanted something thicker and easier to grab than my current rope that is 11mm. I didn’t really think about the weight though and the new 13mm is quite a bit heavier which presents it’s own challenges. Otherwise it is very strong with minimal flex and easy to hold on to and footlock on.
I also tried some single rope technique/SRT (middle pics on shorter tree) and footlocking which was quite a bit easier on the thicker rope and might be good to use in certain situations.
