DIY Bins
3 bin systems

Chicken wire bins
- These types of bins can be covered in chicken wire and/or hardware cloth to keep out critters.
Circular type

Rotating
- A system where the compostable material is put in to a barrel that is fixed to a stand to allow it to rotate.
- Makes the compost pile easier to turn.

Windrows
- Typically are two parallel “walls” that hold the composting materials between them.
- This system is typically set up so that new materials go in one end and compost can be harvested out of the other end.
- The “walls” can be made using cement, dirt, pallets, wood, etc. but still needs to be at least 3 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft
Piles
- Of course the easiest way to compost is to just throw everything in a pile, but typically it is hard to get a uniform pile that is the right size if the materials are not contained.
